How to Remove a CPU Cooling Fan
A CPU cooling fan is attached to a heat sink, allowing heat to be siphoned away from the processor before it can damage the CPU's components. If the heat sink and CPU cooling fan aren't performing adequately, they should be replaced in order to prevent processor damage and improve the overall performance of your computer. Even if you simply need to access the processor in order to perform an upgrade, the cooling fan and heat sink unit must be removed first. Removal is fairly straightforward, and in most cases can be performed using only your thumb or a flat-head screwdriver.
